Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup gram flour (besan)
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped vegetables (onions, tomatoes, bell peppers, or spinach)
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon carom seeds (ajwain)
  • 1 green chili (finely chopped) or a pinch of chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as required (to make a pancake batter consistency)
  • 1 teaspoon oil (for cooking)
Instructions
    Prepare the Batter
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine gram flour, chopped vegetables, turmeric, carom seeds, chili, and salt.
  2. Gradually add water and whisk to form a smooth, lump-free batter (similar to pancake batter consistency).
  3. Cook the Chilla
  4. Heat a non-stick or iron skillet over medium heat.
  5. Grease it lightly with oil.
  6. Pour a ladleful of batter onto the skillet and spread it gently into a thin circle.
  7. Drizzle a few drops of oil around the edges.
  8. Cook for 2-3 minutes on one side until golden brown.
  9. Flip and cook the other side for another 2-3 minutes.
  10. Serve Hot
  11. Serve your Besan Chilla with green chutney, yogurt, or a side of pickles.
Note
  • You can add grated carrots, zucchini, or chopped coriander leaves for more flavor and nutrition.
  • If you prefer a spicier chilla, increase the chili quantity or add a pinch of black pepper.
  • Ensure the batter is not too thick or too thin for an evenly cooked pancake.
  • For a crispier texture, cook on medium-high heat but monitor closely to avoid burning.
