Chana Masala

Chana Masala is a popular North Indian dish made with chickpeas cooked in a flavorful and aromatic blend of spices and herbs. It is a vegetarian and vegan-friendly dish that can be served as a main course or as a side dish with bread, rice, or naan.

  • 1/2 cup chickpeas, boiled
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1 green chili, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • Coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
  1. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds.
  2. Once the cumin seeds crackle, add chopped onion and green chili.
  3. Sauté until the onions are translucent.
  4. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for 1-2 minutes until the raw smell disappears.
  5. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
  6. Add all the spices - coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder and salt. Mix well.
  7. Add boiled chickpeas and 1/4 cup of water. Mix everything well.
  8. Cook for 10-15 minutes until the chana masala has thickened and the chickpeas are coated with the masala.
  9. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
Note
  • You can use canned chickpeas if you don't want to cook them from scratch.
  • Adjust the amount of green chili according to your taste preference.
  • You can also add lemon juice for some tanginess.
