Ingredients
  • 1 boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, for frying
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 1 green onion, sliced (for garnish)
Instructions
  1. In a bowl, combine cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. Coat the chicken pieces with the cornstarch mixture.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan or wok over medium-high heat. Add the coated chicken pieces and fry until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, add minced garlic and grated ginger. Stir-fry for a minute until fragrant.
  4. Add soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, honey, and chili flakes to the pan. Stir well to combine.
  5. Return the fried chicken to the pan and toss with the sauce until the chicken is well-coated.
  6. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  7. Remove from heat and garnish with sliced green onions.
  8. Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.
Note
  • To ensure the chicken is crispy, coat the chicken pieces in a mixture of cornstarch, salt, and black pepper before frying.
  • Adjust the spiciness of the sauce by adding more or less chili flakes according to your preference.
  • Be careful when frying the chicken to avoid overcrowding the pan, as this can prevent the chicken from getting crispy. Fry the chicken in batches if needed.
  • For a healthier version, you can try baking the coated chicken in the oven instead of frying. Place the chicken on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake at 400°F (200°C) for about 20 minutes or until cooked through.
  • Serve General Tso's Chicken with steamed rice or noodles for a satisfying meal. It is often enjoyed as a main course in Chinese-American cuisine.
