  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tsp Szechuan peppercorns, crushed
  • 1/2 dried red chili peppers, crushed or whole
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tsp ginger, grated
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1/2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1/2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 tbsp cornstarch, mixed with 1 tablespoon water
  • Optional garnish: sliced green onions and sesame seeds
