  • 2 medium-sized sweet potatoes (boiled or roasted)
  • 1 teaspoon chaat masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black salt (or regular salt)
  • 2 tablespoons tamarind chutney
  • 2 tablespoons green chutney (mint-coriander chutney)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons pomegranate seeds (optional, for garnish)
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)
  • Juice of half a lemon
Instructions
  1. Boil, roast, or grill the sweet potatoes until soft. Let them cool slightly, then peel and cut into bite-sized cubes.
  2. Place the sweet potato cubes in a mixing bowl.
  3. Add chaat masala, roasted cumin powder, chili powder, and black salt. Toss to coat evenly.
  4. Drizzle tamarind chutney and green chutney over the sweet potatoes. Mix gently to ensure the flavors combine.
  5. Top with chopped onions, tomatoes, and green chilies.
  6. Sprinkle pomegranate seeds and fresh coriander leaves.
  7. Squeeze lemon juice over the chaat and serve immediately.
Note
  • For additional flavor, you can add cashews or roasted peanuts during tempering.
  • Adjust water for desired consistency – less water for firmer upma, more for softer upma.
  • Pair it with coconut chutney or pickle for an enhanced experience.
