In a bowl, mix the chicken pieces with yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric, chili powder, garam masala, and salt.

Boil water with a pinch of salt, cumin seeds, and whole spices (black pepper, bay leaf, cinnamon, cloves, and cardamom).

Add soaked basmati rice and cook until 70% done. Drain and set aside.

Sauté onions until golden brown. Set aside half for garnishing.

Add green chili, tomatoes, and marinated chicken. Cook until the chicken is tender.
