In a mixing bowl, combine chickpea flour, red chili powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida, salt, and oil.

Gradually add water and knead to form a firm and smooth dough.

Divide the dough into small portions and shape them into cylindrical dumplings (gatte).

Boil the gatte in water until they float to the surface. Drain and set aside.
For the Gravy:

Whisk yogurt and add ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, fennel seeds, and salt.

Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Let them splutter and add a pinch of asafoetida.

Pour the yogurt mixture into the pan and cook over low heat, stirring continuously, until the gravy thickens and the oil separates.
Assembling:

Cut the boiled gatte into small pieces and add them to the prepared gravy.
